In this video, Fons & Porter start out by showing an antique quilt that was made in the 1930′s which used a unique technique by hooking the applique into the background. The quilt uses black embroidery floss and blanket stitching done by hand for the applique.
In this show, Fons & Porter will show you some:
- Similar but current applique techniques that take less time than it did in the 1930′s
- How to prepare your applique shapes by windowing them so they’re not stiff
- How to do blanket stitching on the sewing machine rather than by hand
- How to pre-sash your blocks to finish the project quickly
