Everyone loves baskets, whether you are decorating things around the home or carrying things. Baskets are sort of a design icon for patchwork quilts.
On this video, you will learn how to make a basket quilts, along with the following:
- How to use a special piecing technique to create accurate basket quilt blocks
- How to use freezer paper to make symmetrical basket handles
- How pre-stash patchwork blocks
They’ve laid out the fabric pieces and parts for one whole basket quilt block with stripping so all the ingredients are together. The bottom of the quilt block is patchwork, and the top is applique.
For one of their past examples, the top actually used hand applique because they enjoy working with it. For this project, they used machine applique, but either method is totally acceptable.
The philosophy for any patchwork quilt block is to take these little pieces and make them into units that are easier to sew together.

What a sniuntng quilt! I’m a sucker for Jennifer Paganelli; I just adore her use of color. You really made the most of these fabrics with the layout. Beautiful job!
