Let’s take another look at Dianne Nagel’s beautiful Interlocking Stars quilt in this video. I love how she’s changed the colors throughout the quilt. It gives this really complex look to an essentially very simple— two block quilt. It’s really two dimensional and yet simple to make.
Let’s take a look at the blocks that go into the quilt. You have, what we call the star quilt blocks and the chain quilt blocks. And we’ve chosen these two to put out on the table because these two are ones that are actually joined– to make the rows and that’s how the orange quilt strips then connects and seems to weave under the patchwork pieces. We sometimes call this “quilt weaving”. It’s really an amazing element of this quilt.
So this video will further focus on the star quilt block a little bit. We display a orange star block— but as you make this quilt you’ll make a lot of different stars because there will be a different hot color, kind of the zing color in each one— It essentially changes from block to block.
Interlocking Stars is featured in the Jan/Feb issue of Love of Quilting magazine.
